THE PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH MATTER

Finding the right counsellor shouldn't feel like searching through a directory.

At The Ash, we begin with you — what brings you to counselling, how you might want to work and the context of your life — then thoughtfully match you with a counsellor.

THE ASH APPROACH

Accessible. Culturally attuned. Professionally governed. Thoughtfully matched.

Affordable, professionally governed, culturally attuned counselling where people are thoughtfully matched with a therapist who understands both their therapeutic needs and the context of their lives.

THOUGHTFULLY MATCHED

We do not ask you to work out the match alone.

A therapist can be highly trained and still not be the right therapist for every person. Therapeutic fit matters.

Our assessment helps us understand what you are experiencing, what you hope counselling might offer and what may help you feel able to engage in the work.

We then consider approach, experience and availability alongside the things that matter to you.

WHAT WE CONSIDER

A match is about more than a diary slot.

Not every factor will matter equally to every person. We listen for what is important to you rather than making assumptions.

01

Therapeutic need

What is bringing you to counselling and the kind of support that may be helpful.

02

Therapeutic approach

Whether psychodynamic, person-centred, integrative or CBT/CBT-informed work may fit.

03

Culture & context

Culture, race, faith, family, migration, class and community can shape how life is experienced.

04

Identity & belonging

Gender, sexuality, disability and other aspects of identity may matter to how safe and understood you feel.

05

Practical fit

Availability, online or face-to-face preferences and a financially sustainable pathway.

06

Your preferences

If something is particularly important to you in a counsellor, assessment is a place to tell us.

CULTURALLY ATTUNED COUNSELLING

You should not have to leave parts of yourself outside the therapy room.

People do not experience distress outside of culture or context. Family expectations, race, faith, migration, language, class, community, gender, sexuality and experiences of belonging can shape both what we carry and how we make sense of it.

Culturally attuned counselling means approaching difference with curiosity, humility and a willingness to think about the whole person — not assuming that shared identity automatically creates understanding.

The Ash warmly welcomes LGBTQ+ clients. Sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression can be spoken about openly, without judgement and without being treated as a problem to be fixed.

OUR CLINICAL COMMUNITY

Different counsellors. Shared standards.

The Ash brings together counsellors at different stages of professional development, connected by ethical practice, reflection, supervision and respectful work with difference.

01

TRAINEE COUNSELLORS

Developing practitioners, supported in practice.

Our trainee counsellors are completing recognised professional training and have been approved by their training provider to undertake supervised clinical work.

They work within The Ash's clinical framework with supervision and safeguarding support around their client work.

Our qualified pathway includes practitioners who have completed professional training, including counsellors continuing to build experience and develop towards accreditation.

They remain connected to professional standards, reflective practice and appropriate supervision.

PROFESSIONALLY GOVERNED

More than a collection of individual therapist profiles.

The Ash is a counselling organisation with clinical structures around the therapeutic work. Counsellors are not operating as isolated names on a directory.

  • Clinical supervision around counselling practice
  • Safeguarding and risk escalation pathways
  • Assessment before allocation
  • Professional boundaries and record-keeping expectations
  • Organisational clinical oversight

The Ash Counselling is a BACP organisational member and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
